A newsletter about money and audio
Hello and welcome to this newsletter.
Money matters. I find it ridiculous that we live in an age where professionals, especially in the creative sector, aren’t transparent about money and how it impacts them. These conversations are saved for quiet corners in the pub (RIP socialising), frustrated WhatsApp chats, and occasional office meeting rants. I think that’s silly, so this newsletter is about opening the conversation and being frank about cash in my area of business… audio.
All credit must go to the fabulous Niamh Mulvey whose publishing + money newsletter inspired me to create this.
I’m hoping to interview people involved in the audio business, from sound engineers to editors, marketing managers to HR partners, freelance producers to comms executives. Anyone who makes most of their bread and butter from the medium that is audio.
All interviewees shall remain anonymous unless they want to “live out loud”, as my partner would say, and are happy to publicly share details about their work and money. I’m also happy to accept stories from people who wish to remain anonymous from me too.
A caveat: I won’t be verifying stories/interviews, so we’ll just have to work on the basis of trust. Posts will be (minimally) edited for clarity. Full disclosure, I work for the BBC, in commissioning. But any information provided won’t bleed into my day job – I just want to shine a light on the business of audio.
